The Wide #50

Written By: Darren Demaree

I like the alarming

voices, the poets

that call a fire a fire

& scream at the heat

with the nature

of an indignant origin

& always, always

rub the ashes

into their lengthy hair.

I’ve almost collected

enough ash

for a statue, which

means a better poet

will come along soon

to bathe in my work

& smell like my work

& on the occasion

of their nudity,

no one will discuss me,

but I will call the black

soot on them my touch.
