Stacie McCall Whitaker - Stone Coast, Maine

Technology's Story

It took its first breath in the caves
of Lascaux, in the fire that lit walls
so painted bison could flicker to life

As a gangly teen, it lounged
across the seas in wooden boats
and landed on beaches and riverbanks

In its angry youth, it poured
across reddened trenches in Ypres
and laughed at the Maginot Line

Older and somewhat wiser,
it learned to fly and explored
the crisp rings of Saturn

Now it hums in the very air,
signals and signals in light and fiber,
touching us in every place,

Even in our secrets.
