Hanamuke

Written By: Richard Luftig

In Japanese, sincere wishes for one who is departing.

These November geese
Taking first winter’s hint
Leave in chevron flight

For warmer climes.
Their shadows soft
On the fringes

Of  lake-shore
Until all are gone.
And I left behind,

Fastened to
These fields,
Like plantings

Of winter
Wheat, an ache
Without a cure.
